Owner Giles Williams claimed his mum Maureen had taught him how to crimp and he said he was lucky to have a team of 40 great people working with him and some great customers who helped them win.

The Cornish Oven was set up by Giles in 1999. After opening his first shop in Illogan, he has expanded the business to four shops and seven vans which visit routes across Truro, Falmouth and Camborne.

Giles said: “I would like to thank the Cornish public for voting our pasty the best in the county. There were some very big, well established companies in the competition and to have won this title makes me very proud and I would like to thank all our customers for their support. For our pasties to be voted the best in Cornwall is a real honour and an achievement for everyone who works here.”

Giles added: “I’ve not got a secret recipe. My mum taught me to crimp. We use local suppliers and we make traditional pasties. I think it’s all down to our people. They genuinely care about what we do. We make over 2,000 pasties a day and they genuinely want to do a good job.”

Apart from Maureen’s special crimp, Cornish Oven pasties are made from local ingredients, with turnip from Trevor Goldsworthy at Leedstown, meat from Chapman’s butchers at Perranporth and local vegetables from Hedley Curtis.
